We started the school year with a new
project called “Chalk for Inspiration”. PRIDE created positive
messages on the sidewalks at some of the elementary and IMS Middle
School. The messages were researched by member, Katie Jensen. Short
quotes and simple art work were used to decorate the sidewalks for
the returning students to read. The Team had fun while being
creative.
In October, PRIDE assisted SHIM with
their Fall Food Donations by offered additional drop off locations
on Saturdays at the Village Green Soccer Concessions and at the
Community Center. We collected approximately 15 bags and boxes of
food items and also received monetary donations for SHIM. Thank you
to everyone who donated to SHIM and to the families who supported
PRIDE by purchasing hot dogs, drinks and snacks during the games.
At the end of October, PRIDE celebrated
Red Ribbon Week by hosting a Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest at
several of the elementary Schools. The poster theme needed to
include a slogan explaining the danger of drug and alcohol use.
Prizes were awarded to a 3rd and 4th grader at
each of the participating schools. The PRIDE Team had a difficult
time judging the posters as there were so many creative entries.
PRIDE members also created posters with
Drug Facts which were displayed at IMS. These posters were placed
near the clocks in the classrooms and included statistics concerning
what effect drugs had on the population over a period of minutes,
hours, days and a year.
At the end of Red Ribbon Week PRIDE
hosted a Halloween Dance at IMS. PRIDE members provided the music,
snacks and even offered hand drawn temporary tattoos. The IMS
students came in costume and had a fun night with their friends.
We finished out the week with a Hayride
and Bon Fire at the Springhouse for PRIDE members and their
families.
During the holidays Pride of Bethel Park wanted to
help share the joy. One of the things that we did to achieve this
was to help collect items to make gift baskets for the Men and Women
over seas who would not be able to celebrate with their families.
Another activity was collecting food and monetary donation as people
came by an award winning Christmas light house as Santa passed out
candy canes to all the cars.
